SEASONS OF SPECIALTY

Therapy for Women, New Parents and Couples experiencing Burnout,
Overwhelm and Anxiety in Maryland

Do you find yourself overcommitting and feeling anxious, avoidant and lonely?

Do you have a hard time saying no? Are you ‘going through the motions’ in your relationship?

We help women and couples who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma due to life transitions of motherhood, caregiving or career burnout. Instead of overcommitting from FOMO, avoidance, loneliness or escapism; we help women and couples discover ways to be confident saying “yes” to the commitments that promote & expand their purpose, creativity & health. If you’re seeking understanding, validation and actionable strategies amidst the demands of this contemporary world, you’re in the right place. At Tilted Root, we use evidence-based integrative healing for women and couples in ALL seasons of life:

Ever declutter a messy closet and feel like you can finally breathe again?  That's a lot like what EMDR can do for your mind and body.  The brain has a natural ability to heal itself through the Adaptive Information Processing or AIP.  EMDR uses this framework to help clients feel ‘unstuck’ in a way that finally allows them to move on from something traumatic, stressful or an anxiety producing memory.  In other words, not letting the past predict any present or future outcomes.  This process improves clients' wellbeing in all seasons of life.

Grounded in the latest research on postpartum mental health, our approach effectively addresses trauma, anxiety, depression, identity issues and much more,  Sarah strongly believes in building an “Emotional Registry” before giving birth. Perinatal clients state that EMDR can help with alleviating weaning symptoms from breastfeeding, reducing separation-anxiety or facing painful childhood memories in a healthy way to improve caregiving.  The goal is for perinatal clients to foster optimum health, learn preventative strategies and navigate motherhood with confidence.

Our approach to healing is rooted in the understanding that women's bodies experience and process stress in deeply unique ways throughout their lifespan.  Science, trauma-informed and body-centered therapies empower women to heal from not only talking about it, but feeling it.  Dialectical behavioral therapy combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and acceptance.  By encouraging the integration of somatic, mindfulness, acceptance and nervous system regulation therapies; women facilitate healing at the most fundamental and powerful levels, in our own bodies.

Are you feeling misunderstood, unhappy or stuck in your relationship?  Are you afraid of hurting your partner's feelings or wondering if you should stay in the relationship right now?  Are you having challenges related to your family of origin or intergenerational trauma? All these questions are valid and normal during difficult seasons of a relationship.

Hanna Badalova specializes in improving relational and attachment wounds from generational traumas in all forms of relationships, from young couples to polycules. She integrates Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Psychodynamic and Trauma Informed techniques through a culturally sensitive lens.

Are you a new or expecting parent?  Are you feeling overwhelmed with all the ‘stuff’ on the registry and maybe forgot to think about the domestic nuances after the baby is here?  Like the ‘invisible’ labor right after the baby comes when Mom is healing the first couple weeks or boundaries with in-laws.

At Tilted Root, we have learned through collective trial, error and science, that talking about feelings surrounding family planning and preparation won’t hurt you and is actually beneficial for the wellbeing of the whole family and community.

Tilted Root aims to have couples feeling more grounded and capable of meeting their challenges with confidence bringing the focus and energy back to your unique family’s values and beliefs.

Are you a mental health clinician that is feeling burned out and lacking clinical support?  Are you tired of boring PESI trainings?  Tilted Root offers clinical consultation services and trainings for therapists seeking individual or group supervision.

"Words cannot fully capture the impact Sarah has had on my life over the past five years. She has been instrumental in helping me process my traumas while navigating significant life transitions, including college. She is empathetic, calm, and always makes me feel safe in our sessions. Sarah has helped me rediscover myself. What I appreciate most about her is that she consistently adapts her therapeutic approaches to meet my needs. I never felt hopeless, and I knew that with her support, we would figure out a plan and develop new tools to help me get through even the hardest times."  - early adult client
