TILTED ROOT

For over a decade our clinicians have worked in many types of clinical mental health settings with people of all ages, genders, socioeconomic statuses, cultures and ethnicities. One common denominator that we continued to see, specifically among women, was that they did not always feel seen, heard and believed with their medical providers.  To no fault of the actual practitioners (in some cases), but more to the failure to acknowledge the complexities of a women’s bodies and minds.

What if women were advised to intentionally lean into each season of their lives and be more curious

versus rushing through and waiting until something is wrong?

Women have the capacity to experience many seasons in their lifespan: menstruation, hormonal changes, teenage years, young adult years, relationship, procreating, parenting, caregiving, perimenopause, menopause, and death.

Titled Root’s purpose is to create a sanctuary with expert counseling and therapies aimed at helping women and couples to feel seen, heard and believed during ALL seasons of life. Titled Root’s mission is to empower women and couples to listen to their bodies and minds in hopes to make informed healing decisions about their lives and the lives of their children.

SARAH DONOVAN

Owner/Founder and Licensed Therapist

Sarah Donovan (she/her) is a woman, a daughter, a sister, a wife and a mother to two daughters.  All these roles led to creating Tilted Root Counseling and Therapies.  She is a licensed mental health therapist specializing in treating women using EMDR with over 15 years of clinical experience in a variety of settings in Maryland.  She is a Certified EMDR therapist and EMDIRA-Approved Consultant, experienced yoga teacher, Perinatal Specialist and Clinical supervisor.  She is passionate about helping clients struggling with trauma, anxiety, caregiving and burnout.

Sarah has observed her clients heal, grow and change on a cellular level using EMDR as a clinical modality.  Sarah believes that knowing the more cutting-edge scientific truths empower us to define parenthood and womanhood on our own terms in alignment with our own unique values and beliefs, freeing us from oppressive societal or cultural boxes.  She is personally and professionally working on aligning and surrendering to each of life’s seasons with nature’s rhythms to cultivate a greater sense of peace, rest and overall well-being even during the darkest and hardest days.

Sarah picked up snowboarding and skateboarding at age 26. She was inducted into her college’s Athletic Hall of Fame. In this season of life, Sarah’s main sources of emotional safety and connection are her family, music, nature and her black cat, Beatrice, who frequents her lap during virtual therapy sessions.

LCSW-C

Hanna Badalova is a licensed therapist specializing in relational and psychodynamic therapy. She joined forces with Tilted Root because she is excited to offer couples therapy to prospective parents who want to establish a firm foundation from the beginning of their parenthood journeys. Using an eclectic approach of Emotionally Focused Therapy, somatic mindfulness and depth work, she invites couples to look at themselves individually with both compassion and humility.

Hanna uses her own divorce as a cautionary tale for those who might not see the inner workings of their relationship dynamics, and helps strengthen those attachment bonds. She has a full, private practice outside of Tilted Root, working with individuals, families and couples at Narratives Therapy and a podcast & coaching practice centered around relationship loss through Raft Onward. She offers only virtual therapy and provides a free consultation before getting started.
